Sober curious is a new trend popping up in various cities like New York. It's part of the growing trend of being more healthy and mindful in our daily lives. So what is this new trend all about and why on earth would you want any part of it? Let's take a look!
When I'm helping a client with their weight loss and health goals, alcohol is definitely something we have to talk about and set limits around.
Let's take a glass of wine as an example. In a 5 oz. glass of red wine (that's a tiny glass) we have 125 calories, 4g of carbs and 1g of sugar. Do you usually stop at one glass? (Probably not. No judgment, just sayin'!) Not only will the calories, carbs and sugar add up quickly, but your ability to make good choices plummet with each glass.
You know what happens, after a few glasses. Those chips on the table or the bar pie on the menu is suddenly irresistible!! Plus, you feel like trash the next morning, miss your workout and continue to make bad choices the rest of the day. So. Not. Worth. It.
Sober curious is simply a lifestyle choice you can make to limit the amount of alcohol you drink. There are plenty of times I go out and enjoy the company of others and say, "No, thank you" when offered alcohol. There are also times that I choose to have a drink. I make sure that the choice is mine. I will not let the pressure of other people determine what I eat or drink. It's my body and my health! (Anyone feel like we just slipped into an after school special from the 80's?)
