My passion for a healthy lifestyle started at age 13 when I first developed debilitating migraines. I learned that these horrible headaches could be exacerbated by certain foods. That really shocked me. What I was choosing to eat could be the cause of my excruciating pain! That prompted me to start researching how the foods I ate were effecting how I was feeling.
I quickly learned how fascinating studying how foods react in our bodies could be. That research came in handy a few years later.
While in college, I developed Irritable Bowel Syndrome and it completely disrupted my life. I saw many doctors and found no relief. The last doctor I saw was a gastroenterologist who said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but you’ll have to take this prescription for the rest of your life if you want to stop the pain.” Well, that sounded completely illogical to me since I knew instinctively that my IBS was being triggered by food. I decided not to go on a lifelong medication experiment and looked to my diet. I quickly realized that I had food a intolerance that was causing my problems. I eliminated the food from my diet, made some other healthy changes and have been healthy ever since.
With my health issues behind me, I went on to receive my bachelor’s degree from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ and later became certified in Clinical Nutrition and Holistic Health Counseling from The Academy of Natural Health Sciences.
One of the most frustrating issues that my training has helped me overcome is my weight issues. I have never been naturally thin so keeping weight off has always been a struggle for me. I know how it feels to not fit into clothes I wore the year before. I know how it feels to see the numbers on the scale increase even when I was doing everything right. I've had to overcome addictions and emotional eating. It took many years of trial and error and finding the strength and determination to deal with it. But I got to the point where I finally had the veil lifted and could see clearly where I was going wrong and how to fix it. It's like pieces of a puzzle coming together, creating this beautiful picture of health and well-being. And now I have the pleasure of putting the pieces together for my clients.
Helping people change their lives through nutrition has been an incredibly rewarding career. I am so thrilled when clients tell me that, after following my advice, they have never felt better. It is my dream to share my knowledge with as many people as possible.
